My name is Shaojia Chen, and I go by Max. I hold an M.F.A. in Collaborative Design from Syracuse University and currently serve as a Senior Industrial Designer at Apptronik, where I focus on shaping the future of humanoid robotics. With 8+ years of experience in industrial design, I’ve had the privilege of leading design efforts on cutting-edge robotics and consumer electronics, pushing the boundaries of aesthetics, usability, and innovation.

Throughout my career, I’ve contributed to the launch of 8 major products and provided key design support for various other programs plus design mentorship to many young designers. My work has led to the successful acquisition of 15+ design patents globally, a testament to my dedication to crafting unique and impactful solutions. Before transitioning into humanoid robotics, I honed my expertise in robotics at iRobot, as well as consumer electronics in areas like smart speakers and cameras.

Beyond the design studio, I love to travel, explore diverse cultures, and find inspiration in new environments. When winter rolls around, you’ll most likely find me on the slopes—snowboarding is my favorite way to disconnect and recharge.
